SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.—Lake Superior State says it has named former Ferris State and University of Maine assistant coach Justin Rees as its new head women's basketball coach.
Lakers athletic director Kris Dunbar said Wednesday that Rees will take over the program on July 1. He replaces Jamie Pewinski, who's becoming head coach at Great Lakes conference rival Saginaw Valley State.
Pewinski was 77-61 during five seasons as Lake Superior’s head coach.
Rees is a Florida native who played basketball at Barry University. Rees was a four-year letterman under coach Cesar Odio from 1993-97. He played in 102 games, ranking 11th in Buccaneer history, and helped the Bucs post a 68-41 record (31-25 in the Sunshine State Conference).
He was an assistant coach at C.W. Post University in 1999-02, Ferris State in 2002-07 and Maine in 2007-11.
