Barry University would like to wish the Jewish members of our community a blessed Sukkot. This year, the joyous holiday of Sukkot begins the evening of September 20 and ends the evening of September 27. Sukkot is celebrated by dwelling in the succah, a greenery-covered hut, and the taking of the four kinds of vegetation, the lulav and etrog.
By exposing themselves to the elements in the succah, Jews all over the world commemorate G-d sheltering the people of Israel as they traveled from Egypt to the Land of Israel. The four kinds of vegetation express unity and belief in G-d’s omnipresence. Occurring after the solemn High Holidays of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, it is a time of joy and happiness.
