BACKGROUND. Ruben is an anodyne guy attracted by the unusual beauty of Alba, an enigmatic woman. Both live in a peculiar silent universe, with established and surrealistic rules. Ruben must break some of these rules to get Alba's attention. (Genre: Comedy. Time: 15 mins. Director: Toni Bestard)
LOVE IS MORE THAN I CAN HANDLE (Original Title: El amor me queda grande). Samuel is ten years old and madly in love with Lucia. Lucia is twelve and has a master plan to get rid of the only obstacle in her life preventing her from becoming what she desires. Lucia will use all her seductive charms, emulating the femme fatales of the detective movies and novels that she compulsively watches and reads, to bring Samuel to commit a crime. As in classic film noir stories, but filled with comedy, fatality, manipulation, jealousy, passion, and the right amount of dark surrealism are the main ingredients of a children's story about the power of imagination and the price that you sometimes pay for simply loving. (Genre: Comedy. Time: 19 min. Director: Javier Giner)
EL CACAO: THE CHALLENGE OF FAIR TRADE. EL CACAO exposes the dark side of chocolate production in Latin America by examining the economics of Fair Trade from the point of view of the indigenous farmers as they attempt to sustain their community through the growth, harvest, and trade of cacao beans in the global market. The film threads together the themes of neoliberal ideology, human rights, and the economics of the chocolate industry. Most of the film hinges on intimate shots in personal working and living space within a small Ngabe community in the Bocas del Toro region of Panama. (Genre: Documentary. Time: 20 min. Director: Michelle Aguilar)
I’VE JUST HAD A DREAM (Original Title: Acabo de tener un sueño). Irene is eight years old and has just awakened from a horrible dream in this award-winning short film from Spain. Winner of an American Film Award for Best Short Film. (Genre: Drama. Time: 8 min. Director: Javi Navarro)
AS I LOVE YOU (Como yo te amo). Dani is a petty thief who falls for the policewoman that arrests him after robbing a store. This is real love at first sight, a moment of unexpected glare and, especially, something totally new for Dani, who has never been in love before. From that moment on, the only thing that keeps him alive is the crazy hope of seeing her again... Winner of the Audience Award and the Fernand Raynaud Award for Best Comedy at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. (Genre: Comedy. Time: 23 minutes. Director: Fernando García-Ruiz)
