Wellness Day 2011

Barry University danced into a new decade with Wellness Day 2011

Campus Recreation and Wellness program and The Wellness Initiative Network (WIN) danced into a new decade with Wellness Day 2010. Wellness Day took place Wednesday, Feb. 24 with a vendor fair on the Thompson lawn, a lunch and learn “Dancing with the Staff” session in Andreas room 111, and an evening social “Dancing into a New Decade” in Andreas 111.

At the Wellness Day vendor fair the Barry community educated themselves on the eight dimensions of wellness; physical, social, spiritual, vocational, global, emotional, financial and intellectual. Vendors also supported all aspects of wellness, including chiropractic services, breast cancer awareness and smoking cessation. People in attendance had the opportunity to learn, play games, and have fun while snacking on free food and beverages during the fair.

The lunch and learn: “Dancing with the Staff” session was more of an informational gathering designed for members of the Barry community to learn and gain an appreciation for how wellness at Barry University originated and has evolved over the last decade. The session had an interactive performance form Barry’s Ballroom Fitness class and many of the faculty and staff were surprised to see what has been available to them all this time.

“They were so happy to see and learn that CRW and WIN offers so much year-round to help students, faculty and staff reach their wellness goals and that’s what we are here for,” said Catalina Franco-Cicero, wellness and ISR Coordinator/ SES Instructor.

The celebration ended with the evening social: “Dancing into a New Decade,” culminating all of the accomplishments that WIN has made over the last 10 years in wellness programming at Barry. There was a special performance from the Wellness Initiative Network, the Barry Dance team, BLISS and many more.

In all, Wellness Day brought in more than 200 attendees.

“The goal of Wellness Day was to bring awareness to all dimensions of wellness and do what you can now to prevent health problems later,” said Franco-Cicero. Wellness day is looking forward to dancing into the next decade.
