How Far Can You Walk?
Take the BUC Walking Challenge 2009!
“Take a journey” this fall with the department of Campus Recreation and Wellness (CRW) by participating in the Third Annual BUC Walking Challenge, taking place from Oct. 21, 2009 through Dec. 2, 2009. All Barry University community members are invited (faculty, staff, and students throughout ALL of our campuses) to start down this road towards better health.
Registration is now open until the end of the kickoff on October 21, 2009. Forms are available in the Fitness Center (Landon 201) and the office of Campus Recreation and Wellness (Landon 112).
Last year, the Barry University community took the initiative to take part in two different Fitness Challenges. The first challenge was the “Biggest Winner”. This first-ever Biggest Winner Fitness Challenge, which ran from October to December, involved six teams competing to improve their health and fitness through regular exercise. The BUC Walking Challenge was held in the spring. Thirty six teams competed to walk to Orlando and “took steps” to a healthier lifestyle.
The Surgeon General recommends 30 minutes of moderate physical activity most days of the week in order to maintain good health. If you take 10,000 steps a day, you will reap the same health benefits as if you spent that recommended amount of time in the gym each week. Start a fitness program with a group of your friends that works with your schedules, and win in the process! Do not underestimate the social aspect of group exercise!
